Well done. The Enterprise is so iconic and familiar, but it really is an odd-looking craft. It's brilliant in that it's clearly designed for use in space without being constrained by gravity, but I've always wondered what weird alchemy went on in Jeffries' brain to say, "Yes, this is the final shape. Make a model."

Matt Jeffries went through a process of designs. He deliberately kept away from proposed real life designs as well as "Buck Rogers" types of designs (rocketships). He decided that the "Warp Drive" must be very powerful and should be kept separate from the crewed areas.
Ultimately the final say on the design was Gene Roddenberry's. He would look at Jeffries sketches comment on what he liked and Jeffries would work with those elements. Finally this design was chosen and a small test model was made for Gene's final approval, it was hung upside-down from its final orientation.

Just out of interest John, why the decision to use hull marker lights as they weren't used until TMP?
Excellent modelling and a pleasure to see it from all angles this way.

Thanks David. :thanks:
As to the marker lights and self illumination, simply because I like them. They make sense for certain things, such as "showing the flag" when in orbit.

My ghast has been flabbered. Even with the deg3d touches you hold the lines and proportions intact... It "feels" right!
